STUNNING RARE GEORGIAN COMBINATION GILT BRONZE (Ormolu) HAND DESK WAX SEAL-PEN WIPE. T his is a stunning Rare Georgian Combination Gilt Bronze (Ormolu) Hand Desk Wax seal and Pen Wipe, this would date to circa 1820 making it at nearly 200 years old, the detailing is stunning, the hand itself has been crafted beautifully with long slender fingers with a ring on the index finger and the most beautifully ornate bracelet set with a flower on the wrist, the hand itself is then holding the desk wax seal delicately between the index finger and thumb, the wax seal is very elegant and again is a gilt bronze (Ormolu), to the end of the wax seal it has engraved initials J B , this is then finished with a pen wipe to the wrist creating what appears to look like the arm of a glove or the sleeve of a garment, this may be a replacement as they do wear over time, its is so extremely rare and i believe this may be french, i have never seen one like this before on the market, the detailing is breath taking, you can see each nail has been carved beautifully, it is so very life like, on the wrist you will see a wonderful carved rope twist cuff bracelet set with a flower which is beautiful. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this i believe would have once belonged to a wealthy Gentleman and been used daily to seal his letter, he would have written his letter with a quill pen using the wipe to the end to soak up any excess ink and then folded the paper, using heated sealing wax this would have been dripped on to the edge of the letter and while still hot he would have used his seal to imprint his crest, when dry the wax would have given a secure seal to the letter, this was in a time when letter writing was very important and sent daily, if this seal could talk i bet it would have some fascinating stories to tell, this is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. Please study the photos as this is an extremely rare Hand wax seal and pen wipe, its so extremely rare. The hand and seal is 8.5 cm length… Combined with the pen wipe in total it is 15 cm length. All Antique silver items will show some signs of wear, which only adds to the history of the object…..
