A beautiful antique gift boxed set of French writer’s tools, excellent and still in box. The dip pen, wax seal or sceau and letter opener have stunning figural handles and the marks for. 800/1000 pure silver, the sanglier (boar’s head) mark certifying it. The look of finest sterling silver but slightly stronger and used for small serviceable items like these desk tools. The seal has not had matrix engraved yet, so you can have your own monogram done. Even the box is in fine shape – would be a fabulous gift for your favorite letter writer. Full measurements noted on photos. Very good to excellent condition throughout, as if never used. Hollowware handles feature a bird with wings unfurled. A bit French Empire Revival, dating latest 1800s to as late as 1920. I see nothing to report by way of damage, the old steel nib, though, is a bit corroded. You’ll probably want a new nib, easy to find in an art supplies shop. We’re easy to deal with. An exquisitely styled antique dip nib pen in sterling silver decorated with tiny flowers and acanthus leaves. Probably from the second half of the XIXth century the 1880s or so. Measuring 7 1/8 inches long, excluding the nib, the pen has a faded hallmark on the collar. The delicate design would very likely make it a ladys pen. It is very well balanced and easy to write with. T comes with the nib and a lovely storage box. Please read before purchasing. Vintage and antique objects have lived and been used and because of that, they sometimes show it. The condition of the object is described as accurately as possible, including its character flaws. But that is really part of the attraction and enjoyment of an old piece. Elegant antique French sterling silver 2pc writer’s desk set including wax seal or “sceau” and mother of pearl bladed letter opener in the original fitted & marked storage and/or presentation box! 1900 (give or take 10 years) French writer’s desktop set in fine old French hallmarked silver with each handle bearing the Minerve or Minerva control mark meaning it’s guaranteed to be. A tiny boar’s head hallmark on the seal tip itself meaning it’s in. 800, or 80% pure, silver. The set appears to never have been put to use, all in fabulous condition with solid mother of pearl knife on the letter opener. The silver handles also with an ornate Louis XVI style tableau of flowers, acanthus curling around the top and tiny seashell shaped finials. The box is a bit aged on the exterior but fully intact, the inside of the lid bears an embossed stamp that reads Horlogerie Suisse, J. Plauchatz, 14 Rue Alsace Lorraine, Toulouse. The set appears to never have been put to use other than a small nip and some rust on the knife/scraper tool, and there is no engraved monogram or attached matrix on the wax seal so you could still have it engraved with your own or that of someone you intend it for as a gift. The set has simply been put away and treasured for over 100 years. One of two great old French writing sets, in addition to a few fabulous sterling silver & crystal inkwells, that we’re adding this week so be sure to browse some while you’re with us. Very good to excellent, a little age to the old box but nothing showing of wear or use at all on the five original matching writing tools.
