Vintage “Sheaffer Imperial” Fountain Pen-Sterling Silver Marquetry Design-1970s. Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa was founded around 1913 by Walter A. Sheaffer, an American creative mind and businessman. Back in those days Walter Sheaffer dedicated his life savings to develop the first commercially succesful lever-filler, patented in 1908. Sheaffer is considered to be one of the most important historical producers of fountain pens and is known for its diamond-shaped inlaid nib, its Snorkel & Touchdown filling-mechanism and its White Dot. Terling silver with marquetry pattern. Cap imprint: Sterling Silver Sheaffer USA (and Sheaffer crown). Nib imprint: Sheaffer 14K 585 USA. Nib material: 14 karat gold. I reckon the nib size is fine. Size capped: approximately 5.1. Estimated time of production: 1970s. Country of manufacture: United States. Technical condition: the cartridge-filling mechanism is in working order. Optical condition: shows traces of wear. Comes in (slightly damaged) box without papers. Also included: new old stock Sheaffer converter and Monteverde “Coal Noir” ink sample.
