Some very minor signs of use can be seen under a magnifying lens. ABOUT MONTEGRAPPA AND THE REMINISCENCE COLLECTION OF PENS. Although most of you are familiar with Montegrappa, you should know that the company got this name some years later. The first writing implements the company produced were hard rubber pens equipped with an eyedropper filling system. Limiting production to just two lines, one wasinspired by a German design pen, while the other borrowed stylistic featuresfrom the Waterman 42. During the First World War, Bassano happened to be a centre of military operations, which was an opportunity for the company, as many soldiers used the company’s pens to write the correspondence. Among them, the American novelists Ernest Hemingwayand John Dos Passos, both volunteers as ambulance drivers. An important acquisition marked the year of 1922 when the company bought a building in ViaCa Erizzo, which still houses the company’s headquarters today. Three years later Alessandro Marzotto and Domenico Manea bought the company and changed itsname in “Industria Pennini Oro e Penne Stilografiche Elmo”. In order to bring a significant contribution to the company’s following projects, Heinrich Helm has remained a Production Manager. A disastrous event occurred in 1946 when a fire partially destroyed the buildings and withthat all the celluloid pens production (the celluloid material is highlyflammable). From that moment onwards, the company focused on of the production of metal overlays as well as on the use of plastic injection for pens. Around 1950, most of the celluloid pens were replaced with acrylic models. However, Montegrappa kept using the celluloid for specific models. The same period brought with it the transition to the filling cartridges. In 1970 as a modern interpretation of the 300 and 400 series, Montegrappa released somemodels in sterling silver, vermeil, enamel and enamel with vermeil. Sources claim that the 300 series had sterling silver clips and trims while the 400series had vermeil elements. Only the precious metal pens were equipped with agold nib, whereas the enamel ones were fitted with a gold plated steel nib. Launched in 1983 and available in several styles and sizes, the Reminiscence line was basedon a model produced by Montegrappa around 1915. This line was characterised by octagonal and round shapes and each model came in a large or slim size featuring a plain or an engraved finish. An interesting detail of this line wasthe end part of the barrel. Montegrappa made a thread on it so that the cap could be screwed in place when posted. In recent years, the company has launched so many incredibly manufactured writing instruments, fact that proves one thing: Montegrappa has significantly developed its expertise over the years while it remained tied to a single ideal: to design writing instruments that spark interest and powerful emotions around people. Montegrappa products are still manufactured in the original factory on the river Brenta, in Bassano del Grappa -near Vicenza, in the North-East of Italy. A rare Reminiscence sterling silver fountain pen by Montegrappa. This one has been used so some traces of normal light use , a little silver discoloration on the clip ball. A stunning pen made from 925 sterling silver in octagonal shape with Greek key design. First released in 1983 , this is one of the earlier models. The pens cap is screw on and can attach to the opposite end when in use , the pen is fitted with a piston converter and can also accept cartridges if preferred. The pens nib is made from 18K two tone gold and is a F= fine in size. The pens boxes were not kept however does come in a metal pen holder. Thanks very much for looking at our listing for this lovely Montegrappa Reminiscene 1055VI Sterling Silver Fountain Pen, which comes with an izods presentation box. The pen has been carefully used over the years and is presented in lovely condition. The modern versions of the Reminiscence were first launched in 1983 and took inspiration from historical Montegrappa pens, they’re now difficult to find in good condition. The pen is crafted from sterling silver and features a greek key design on the barrel and cap. The newer Aquila pens have a 2670 VI hallmark. The pen is fitted with an 18k medium nib and it’s a cartridge / converter (not supplied), so you have the best of both worlds when it comes to ink. The pen carries a juicy broad 18k gold nib and is in very good condition. The Nitty-Gritty There are no major imperfections to note, no chips splits or engravings. 4 of the feed’s fins are chipped, see photo 5. And there are signs of cosmetic wear, notably a scratch at the foot of the barrel (photo 8). And micro-scratches and wear throughout. Nonetheless the overall appearance of the pen is still very striking and beautiful indeed. And it writes very nicely, on the wet side, a lovely juicy broad.
