Rarely seen nowadays, this amazing pen has a grey-black celluloid barrel and a marbleized ivoire resin cap. The barrel is adorned with a hand worked sterling silver overlay, while the clip is made of hand worked sterling silver with vermeil. It has a Medium 18kt gold two-tone nib. Marlen pens are hand-made in the Naples region of Italy, and are known the world over for their distinctive designs, and use of diverse materials. This pen features Marlen’s focus on harmonious and aesthetic design. Part of the Cosmic Beliefs series, this pen was released circa 1999 as a limited numbered series of 416 pieces in this sterling silver version. It celebrates Tikal (founded in 416AD), the capital of the Mayan Empire , which spanned Central America in the 1500BC to 1500AD era. The decorations on the barrel silver plate and the clip capture images of the Mayans’ advance hieroglyphic language and monumental art. New old stock, with a very nice 18kt gold nib. Length closed is 15.7cm, length open is 13.6cm, width at widest point on the cap is 1.9cm, width at widest point on barrel is 1.6cm, and weight empty is 50g. Packaged in a premium black nappa leather desk box. Overall the antiqued metal work has a nice patina, with slight nicks, bumps, imperfections and grooves evidencing the hand-working of the metal parts.
