A Very Early and Rare Onoto 2000 with a Thomas De La Rue Silver Overlay 1911
On offer is a rare example of an early Onoto 2000 with a silver overlay by De La Rue. Silver Onotos from this period are rare enough, but models with a full silver overlay including the section and the turning knob are hardly ever seen. The clear barrel hallmarks show that it was Assayed in London by Thomas De La Rue in 1911 (q year letter), the clip, also by De La Rue is a slightly later addition, the hallmarks showing that it was Assayed in 1918 (c year letter). The pen is still in very good overall condition, the overlay does have a very few tiny and very shallow dints, but these dont really detract from the attractiveness of this pen. It is fitted with a slightly later Onoto 14ct 3st nib, which does write beautifully (see writing sample). Capped it measures approximately 118mm, and posted approximately 150mm. Although when capped it appears to be rather small, when writing with it posted (15cm) it feels very comfortable in my not small hand. The pen has only just received a full service by an Onoto Specialist and so should give many years of trouble free use. If you have any questions then please do feel free to ask.
